Latin American Law Program, Day 3, Buenos Aires

Busy day, busy night. We woke up and made it to class. Class was miz. It was particularily rough for Amelia, who barely made it to class that day.

To make things worse, we had to visit Banco Rio Santander after class to hear a presentation from one of their economists. It started late. It was hot. It was during nap time. Overall, not in favor.  After we got through the discussion of monetary policy and investment in developing Latin economies, we headed back to the apt for a nap.

Amelia, Zac, and I went to an Italian restaurant in our neighborhood for dinner called Pizza & Espuma. The pizza margherita was almost as good as if it was in Italy. We also had a table wine that was only ok. Apparently ordering the cheapest wine on the menu is not a recipe for success.  Beware bad malbec.

Zac and I decided to join the "official" activity for the evening- a tango club called Buenos Aires Tango Cafe,  in CONFITERIA IDEAL, with the Depaul professors. Amelia was still feeling bad from the previous night. We were skeptical about their suggestions after the Cafe La Biela incident, and we were fooled again. The only good thing about it was that it provided an organizational opportunity.

We went to a bar called La Cigale to meet up with my friend Ashley Wuest who was in town by some twist of fate. Even though Ashley never materialized, the bar was very cool. And it had an awesome balcony.  We met really cool Brazilians there. Zac found these two girls- a lawyer and a journalist. And Rebecca found a private pilot. They became our group for the night.

At some point, we realized that the danceclub above the bar wasn't going to open, and we weren't done for the night. The bartender sent us to a club around the corner called Club Bahrein. I was blind for a solid sixty seconds due to the abuse of a strobe light.

We ran into some of our new friends from Depaul that (wisely) skipped out on the tango event. They decided to go VIP and get bottle service (thanks t the exchange rate, it was only like $15/pp). Monica, Rebecca, Zac, and I spent the rest of the night with the Brazilians and Depaul kids on the dance floor and in VIP.

When Zac and I cabbed home, drivers were waiting to rip us off. Zac made us switch cabs twice, but we got home safely, thankfully.
